Hey y'all, I stopped playing the game around the time when all the additional coaches were added. It has been a few years with my current team and with the flip I'm looking at my coaches and need a reminder what effects, if any/much, the different positional coaches actually have and/or have been noted to have on results. Thanks!

I wonder the same thing. I try to adjust my coaches when needed to compliment the manager. So, if my manager has a low pitchign rating, I find a pitching coach that has a high rating there even if the rest of their ratings are bad.

Does it work? I don't know! That's hard to quantify.

From the manual:

Hitting Coach: primary coaching contribution is the offensive performance of the big league players. Also helpful for offensive player development.

Pitching Coach: primary coaching contribution is the pitching performance of the big league pitchers. Also helpful for pitcher development.

Bench Coach: coaching contributions include improving defensive performance and development. Also helps with general development.

1st / 3rd Base Coach: above and beyond their in game roles, their primary coaching contribution are general player development.

To clarify a little (as I interpret the manual):-

Hitting coach: above average or (preferably) good at coaching hitters and teaching the game.

Pitching coach: above average or (preferably) good at coaching pitchers and teaching pitching.

Bench coach: above average or (preferably) good at coaching defence and teaching fielding. Presumably, above average or good at also teaching the game AND/OR pitching would be advantageous, given "helps with general development."

1st/3rd base coaches: "above and beyond their in game roles, their primary coaching contribution are general player development."
Your guess is as good as mine as to what their "in-game roles" might be, but I'd guess from this that their main roles are player development (ie. teaching) but anything they can offer on coaching offence/defence/fielding can only help.

Generally, just hire the best coaches you can, and even then I'm not sure just how important they actually are - I've managed to hire exceptional coaches ever since they became a thing for season 2052, but has it made a huge difference to my fortunes? Yo-yoing between leagues III-V would say no, and I'm not convinced having lesser coaches would have had me falling all the way to league VI. That's baseball I guess.
