We're off to a good start, but I don't expect this pace to continue. We have a lot of development and "try-outs" happening at the major league level right now. I expect the season to be bumpy overall, and I am primarily hoping to avoid relegation while learning more about my players.

Thank you! I cannot recall ever having a 16 game winning streak above league level 6 before. What a strange season this has been so far.

We've finished the first 50 games of the season, and we're about to enter inter-division play. Let's take a moment to check out the standings.

Over in the East, there's a tied race for the division between the Cary Catfish and the Buffalo Bison. Cary finished a clear second last season despite some very competitive stretches. I'm sure they're eager to promote, but Buffalo won't want to go down without a fight.

Here's a Buffalo recommendation: I once ate at a restaurant in Buffalo called "Jim's Steakout" and had a delicious Buffalo chicken sub. I highly recommend it. They don't call it Buffalo chicken in Buffalo, though. If you're ever in Buffalo, then "Buffalo wings" are just called "wings". I think the sandwich was called "Jim's Bleu" or something like that.

I don't know what can I say about the West, except that I have no idea what has happened with my team this season. I think it is completely unsustainable. When I look at my stats, I see overperformance across my lineup and pitching staff. I fully expect my team OPS to drop and my team ERA to raise as the season progresses, and that's not a recipe for big success going forward. Our 16 game winning streak ended with us dropping 5 of 6 games to Novi and Modesto, so these particular birds may already be coming home to roost. Any lead built over 50 games can certainly be lost over the proceding 110 games. Still, with these wins in the books, I am now considering playing time and roster changes to try to capitalize and increase our odds of wnning the division.

Here are the standings. The numbers after the team names are Wins, Losses, Winning Percentage, Games Back, and Run Differential:

1 San Luis Obispo Turtles 37, 13, .740, -, +79
2 Novi Doubledays 25, 25, .500, 12, -2
3 Sioux City Catfish 25, 25, .500, 12, -25
4 Minnetonka Panthers 23, 27, .460, 14, -29
5 East St. Louis Cardinals 20, 30, .400, 17, +22
6 Modesto Millionaires 20, 30, .400, 17, -45

1 Cary Catfish 32, 18, .640, -, +60
2 Buffalo Bison 32, 18, .640, -, +35
3 Melbourne Raccoons 26, 24, .520, 6, -17
4 Biloxi Thresher Sharks 22, 28, .440, 10, -32
5 Collierville Mountaineers 20, 30, .400, 12, -10
6 Florence Violets 18, 32, .360, 14, -36

Happy New Year, everyone! We've reached the All-Star break, so let's take a look at inter-division play so far!

This has been a strange season for ID. The East won 1st half player very narrowly at 92-88 and .511 wpct, but this was because the West teams have such a lopsided performace. The West actually has more teams playing above .500 and even .600 in inter-division than the East, but one West team in particular has collapsed alarmingly.

The top overall team is the Novi Doubledays witha 20-10 record and .667 wpct! Second place is a tie between the Biloxi Thresher Sharks and Modesto Millionaires at 19-11 and .633. Well done!

My own Turtles played above .500 in the first half of ID, and I will gladly take that. My primary goal at this point in the season is to avoid a complete collapse, so any extra wins are just gravy. If we played exactly .500 for the rest of the season, then we would finish with 94 wins and probably win the division.

Here's the standings:

Congratulations to the inevitable IV.8 West winners, the Novi Doubledays! We still have a one game lead remaining, but considering how quickly the lead has evaporated, that is as good as nothing.

Well, today's result feels like a stay of execution. The season felt like it was headed on a clear trajectory favoring Novi, but being back to five games over is like hitting the reset button.

There's still season left for things to go wrong for my SLO Turtles, but the division race feels very different today than yesterday.
