Rock777 Joined: 09/21/2014 Posts: 10004 Haverhill Halflings Legends	Are you talking about a fully developed player? Or a rookie? None of those are red flags for a rookie. For established players you want to be looking at their stats. For Hitter Rookies No Hitting mentioned in the scouting report is a flag for me, "will never be a decent hitter" is a huge red flag. Projected Bat Control below 10 is a red flag. Projected Discipline below 10 is a flag. OBP under .290 (except maybe for SS) OPS below .650 for skill players OPS below .750 for hitters (OF,3B,1B,DH) For Pitcher Rookies A "Wild" or "Lacking" Control report is a red flag. The lack of either a Velocity or Movement scouting report is a flag. HR/IP ratio over 0.13 WHIP over 1.650 CS% under 25 POT can change, so even a POT 9 rookie can be useful, but some POT 15 players are useless. Its better to look at Potential. Rock777 Joined: 09/21/2014 Posts: 10004 Haverhill Halflings Legends	Its all kind of important in a continuum. When they are very young, you have nothing to go by other than the scouting report. When they are fully developed the scouting report is meaningless. The scouting report becomes less important as you see how they develop and you can see stats. You need to take minors stats with a grain of salt, but you can see certain tendencies. I value minors stats more than some. After they have a few years of development under their belts (sometimes more if very young), you can start to project their growth. Combine those projections with the scouted ability ranges, along with their statistical tendencies, and you can get an idea how they might perform in the majors. Its still not a guarantee, some fall off early, some improve later. But at least you can get a feel for how good they are in their role. I don't usually go for guys with bad control - although "below average" is the best of the negative ratings. He had enough positives that I decided to try him out. He hasn't gathered many minor stats yet, so jury is still out - His Amateur numbers are really good.

Rock777 Joined: 09/21/2014 Posts: 10004 Haverhill Halflings Legends	James looks like a good prospect to me. Slow SI growth in the teens is normal, that 7 point pop last year is a good sign. And pitchers develop very quickly when they hit the majors. He is still pretty young, so lots of room for growth. He doesn't have a negative control report, and it looks like its growing at the same rate as his velocity, so he should be ok there. The main question will be if he can keep the HRs down. Currently almost no stats, so its hard to tell what he is in regards to HR/9. But he is likely a good LHS if nothing else. Updated Saturday, August 22 2026 @ 8:05:25 am PDT
