This guy is frustrating as heck. Former #1 overall prospect globally...and if you peek at his stats the last few years...yikes. Clearly the Control is what is causing the issue, but I thought he'd be a bit better than what I've gotten out of him so far. https://brokenbat.org/player/375153

He's only 22 and I would say he appears to be having a better year this year. It's too early to really tell with only 45 PA in league, but my calculator says his pitcher rank is a career best 63 this year (vs. a career p-rank of 27) and his FIP is also career best so far, almost a full point better than his career FIP. So I think he's turning a corner. He does throw a lot of pitches per batter though. It's possible he's not a starting pither (yet).

(Slow response) I was going to blame his defense. 12 and 11 range on the middle infielders isn't a lot. But your other starters seem to be doing fine with that. As SanKaloon said his underlying numbers this season are good. Looks like he's having some bad luck. Seasons before this could be chalked up to growing pains. Wynne isn't really a comparable. But his career strike %, WHIP, opp BA, HR rate are similar to what Nichols is putting up this season. You can absolutely be successful with 12-13 control. I'd stay the course. He feels like the kind of guy who would make you regret cutting him.
