Press Releases:

Aug 14 2070: Looking toward 2071 - by Coach AC on August 28th, 2025

With a dismal record of 41-64, with no signs of improvement, there will be a shift in focus. The remainder of the season will be a rebuilding year and thus the focus will be on younger players. Higher contracts will be cut to make room for off season free agent signees, especially pitchers.

May 17 2070: Floundering Friars - by Coach AC on August 5th, 2025

There's new faces around the clubhouse and new faces on the field today for the 9-24 Friars. They released familiar names like OFs Stoddard, Kidwell and Hayden because according to Schmitty "they haven't been producing and were only hurting the team." The Friars signed new faces, 3b Christian Alba, OF Guillermo Cordero and SS/OF Gaspar MarĂn.
Rumor is that the club is looking to sign more players off waivers in the near future, possibly some pitchers. Only time will tell if these new recruits will help Gadsden turn things around.

Mar 05 2070: Chester Yarbrough Day - by Coach AC on July 13th, 2025

The Friars have declared opening day this year as Chester Yarbrough Day. Fans will be giving a random year baseball card personally autographed by Mr. Yarbrough while supplies last. Before the game there will be a ceremony to induct Yarbrough to the Friar Hall of Fame.

Oct 30 2069: The Championship comes to Gadsden! - by Coach AC on July 2nd, 2025

This is Chet Schmitt's 6th year at the helm of The Friars and has come so close to the playoffs several times. The team has posted winning records every year under him with his 1st year being the exception. They even tied for 1st one season and lost out on run differential. So just imagine how sweet it was return home after sweeping all 3 games in Afton. After 2 great pitching duels the 2 teams split in Gadsden, The Friars big, heavy bats woke up in Afton taking all 3 games there.

Oct 22 2069: A Hard Row to Hoe - by Coach AC on June 30th, 2025

"Winning 3 out of 4 tough games against The Beavers is going to be a major momentum boost going into the playoffs." Gadsden's manager Chet Schmitt said. "We've been on the verge of being here several times in the last 6 years and we've finally made it. It's been a hard row to hoe and it's not going to get any easier. Afton is a really good team and we're starting off the 1st game without Drew", he said referring to The Friar's SS and leadoff hitter Drew Carney who will miss a game due to a broken toe, "and Bradley will be out for 2 games with that hand injury that's been plaguing him." 2b Dirk Bradley only batted a .239 this season but had 34 HR with 88 RBI. Fans will also notice a little shake up in the starting rotation with starter Rudy Alonso needed a few days for his blister to heal and the fact that the rotation has been inconsistent all year. All the starters have show flashes of greatness followed by terrible outings.
It should make for an exciting postseason!
