Rookie outfielder Mateo Florez hit his first homer yesterday. In the bottom of the 8th with Kettering up 6-5 he hit a two run blast to provide insurance. This came after he had been brought in as a pinch hitter.

Padres 31 yr old reliever Humberto Bermudez is shining out of the bullpen. He has a 2.42 ERA through 22 1/3 innings. Previously as a starter he had 3 straight seasons with an ERA over 5 before last season having a 4.18 ERA but the switch to the bullpen later in his career is looking like it may save his career.

The Padres have released raining Cy Young winner Kike Anguino after a rough start to the season. The 31 year old had a 20 and 8 record with 178 Ks and a 2.76 ERA last year in route to a championship, all star appearance, all league selection, and the Cy Young award.
