Sep 20 2071: 2,500 for Valdivia - by El jefe on November 23rd, 2025

With a single in the bottom of the 8th inning of an important game to keep Urbana's promotion hopes alive, Cubs all-timer Rodrigo Valdivia reached 2,500 hits! A difficult Broken Bat milestone to achieve, Valdivia accomplished the feat in his 15th season with the team. Despite an aging body, Valdivia has shown few signs of slowing down, which makes his pursuit of 3,000 hits more than a pipe dream

Sep 18 2070: Sims secures 300th save - by El jefe on September 6th, 2025

Further extending his Urbana franchise record, Stewart Sims secured his 300th career save with a perfect 9th inning in Urbana's 5-3 win over Jacksonville. Appropriately, the strikeout machine at the back of Urbana's bullpen achieved the mark by posting a K on Rodrigo Alcantar. The 35,000+ in attendance showered Sims with praise as he celebrated with teammates.

A 6th round pick by Abilene in 2054, Sims joined Urbana in 2058, making his big league debut 2 seasons later. He took over the closer role in 2064, and put together one of the best 4-season streaks for a closer from 2065-2068, saving 204 games (to only 9 blown saves) while only giving up 42 earned runs and 172 base runners against 199 strikeouts over 207+ innings during that span.

Apr 07 2067: 105 wins and #1 ranking highlight 2066 Urbana season - by El jefe on December 6th, 2024

After the heartbreak of losing out on Legends by a RD tiebreaker in II.1 in 2065, Urbana used the near-miss as motivation for 2066 and turned in the best season in team history. A team record 105 wins, +235 RD (a record for a non-LL6 season), 7 All-Stars, and 3 All-League selections highlighted the season. Perhaps the crowning achievement though was Urbana sitting atop the rankings as the #1 team in all of Broken Bat at season's end for the first time in team history. This meteoric climb from #137 a few seasons ago was buoyed by an incredible 34 game run-for-the-ages in the 2nd half of the season that saw the Cubs go 31-3, including winning streaks of 11 games and 15 games (26-1 in that span).

Can the Cubs keep it going in Legends? An aging roster and some new faces create uncertainty in the face of opportunity.

Jan 13 2062: Edwards Steps Down to Usher in New Urbana Era - by El jefe on October 27th, 2023

Frank "The Tank" Edwards stepped down as Urbana Cubs manager today after 15 seasons at the helm. Overseeing the most successful run in Urbana's Broken Bat history, Edwards led the team to 1288 wins, 4 League championships and 3 promotions to Legends. Citing the need for a new voice to lead the Cubs into the future, Edwards was thankful to Owner El Jefe for giving him the opportunity to manage such a strong crop of young gentlemen and praised incoming manager Salomon Mesa as a luminary ready to take the league by storm. Still at the young age of 60, Edwards is uncertain whether he will entertain other managerial gigs or retire back on the shores of Florida.

Oct 26 2057: Wolf Tanner gets long overdue Hall-of-Fame nod - by El jefe on December 20th, 2022

Wolf Tanner cemented his legacy as the greatest waiver wire pickup in Cubs history today, as he was inducted into the Hall-of-Fame along with fellow IF stalwart Abelardo Bustos. Tanner put together arguably the greatest offensive season in Cubs history in 2047, posting 37 HRs, 137 RBIs, 41 2Bs, 16 3Bs, 48 SBs, and a .953 OPS, which was part of an incredible 6-season stretch that saw Tanner post three 30-30 seasons.

The Gold Glove SS also won 3 League Championships, received 2 All-Conference nods, and 2 additional All-Star selections during his career. He ranks in the top 10 of almost every offensive category and holds the record for most Game MVPs with 107.

Congratulations to Tanner on his long-overdue induction and for propelling Urbana to new heights!
